Who: Harry, his Biyomon, and anyone passing by
What: Harry desperately trying to make his wand work while Biyomon judges him silently.
When: Thursday afternoon
Where: Somewhere in the city, near a bench.

All in all, today's events hadn't made him like apparition any more. Even if it wasn't Dumbledore or apparition's fault that he had suddenly found himself in some weird supposedly digital world, where he was chose again for something, he still couldn't help but file it all as "Yet another reason why I prefer flying", well above the physical discomfort in terms of annoyance.

But that wasn't his main concern now. No, what worried him right now, was the fact that his magic was gone. How, he had no idea. All he knew what was his spells weren't working; his wand sat on his hand as he cast them as just a useless stick. This, more than anything worried him, and he was determined to trying everything to get his wand to work, no matter how many times the giant pink bird that had identified itself as a "Biyomon" that had been following him since he got here told him it probably wouldn't work no matter what he did.

So that was what Harry was doing, staring at a can he had been trying to do anything to, from levitating it to enlarging it, face scowling in concentration, while Bioyomon looked at him with a mixture of silent judgement and exasperation.

Ignoring the bird, he quickly points his want at the can and mutters "Engorgio."

Waver was a little out of it, as he had been since his ill-fated adventure into the Dark Field. Sure, he was getting over it well enough, but these things did take time. Today he'd decided to get some air for a change, hoping that would make him feel a little less miserable. But even in that state, it was hard to just miss something that registered as out of the ordinary, even for this world's standards.

"Uh--sorry, I'm not trying to bother you or anything, but...what are you doing?"

Because it looked like some weird caricature of magecraft. Or maybe an imitation of 'magic' as the average fantasy novel reader would know it, Waver thought to himself. (Of course magecraft didn't really work like that. That would be ridiculous.

Roze was nursing the last dregs of a raging hangover from the party last night. It was good, great even, and people had really turned out in a good way, despite everything. She'd drank and eaten copious amounts of everything available and paid for it in the morning.

While not prone to sickness, she - like many others - had been trying to drown issues from the previous week.

She was fairly certain she'd tried to kiss someone who was not interested. That or she had walked into a wall. Or both.

Reeling from the night of festivity and in need of getting herself sorted out before showing up for the sleepover - if she was allowed in - the pink-haired Amazon had chosen to shower, eat a light breakfast and go out for a long jog through the mess the city had become.
It gave her the opportunity to assess the damage, clear her head and happen across a confused-looking young man.

At least he got to meet her in something less skimpy than her usual fare.

Slowing in her jog, Roze altered her course and wandered up to the boy as her Kotemon caught up with her, huffing irritably. At six-foot, she was a good deal taller than most girls and some boys. Her mass of bright pink hair was tied back in a simple pony-tail, damp and drying into thick waves and curls. Instead of her usual thigh-high stilettos and too-short tops posing as small dresses, she was wearing plain sneakers, tiny gym shorts and a tank-top that was doing a heroic job holding her ample bosom in place. With tattoos all down her left side and bandages over various places, she could have been an MMA fighter, if she weren't built more like a centerfold with a face for make-up ads.

"Hey, hey kid, you alright?" she asked, cocking her head and coming up around him to smile at his Biyomon.

"Hey there, cutie!" she added, addressing the digimon. She treated everyone the same, large, small, human or otherwise.

"You look a little uh...flummoxed. You just come in?"

Strictly speaking, magecraft wasn't something discussed outside the Clock Tower, and certainly not to normal people. But the circumstances of this place really weren't ordinary by any stretch of the imagination, and it hadn't taken Waver long to discard the idea of secrecy in a place where it wasn't necessarily a point.

He glanced to the Biyomon with a slightly concerned look--he certainly sounded like he was from Waver's part of the world, and while wands weren't unheard of for a magus, they also weren't common practice.

"You're not...from the Clock Tower, are you?" he finally asked after considering the possibilities, sounding apprehensive.

No chance. Bitch is nosy, bro.

"Uh, see you're having a bit of a malfunction there?" she asked, nodding slightly towards the direction he'd tucked his wand.

"Minor suggestion? Don't worry about it. Everyone around here has to adjust to being plain, normal human. There's a big-ass alligator guy that's a human now, and some demony types. So whatever you're doin' - I'm gonna assume you're a mage or sorcerer or something - just relax."

She clears her throat, stretching her arms overhead and standing on tip-toe until her back pops before dropping her hands to her sides and perking a brow.

"You had a chance to eat yet? Or find your room? The town is kind of a mess after a little hullabaloo, so I can understand not gettin' your bearings. You did read all the info on your D-T, right? Well...haha, pretty fuckin' hypocritical of me to ask. i threw mine on my first day."

"Please do not allow her to mislead you. She threw it several times, and the only reason you can understand anything she says right now is because she's too inebriated to form her usually incoherent sentences laden with unladylike expletives."

"Mm. Haha. Hm. The mouthy little shit here is Musashi. He's just a peach. And I'm not drunk. I'm hungover. Entirely different. Tch, rude. Anyways, I'm Roze," she sniffs, holding out a hand with bandages around the knuckles. "Welcome to Neverland."

"It's times like this I think we need some kind of hand signal or something..." Waver muttered, sighing. If he wasn't a magus from London as Waver knew it, the potential threat had significantly decreased. Which was a relief in itself, not counted the added factor of someone else that knew (or had known) some form of magic. Even if it must have been functionally different, Waver was already interested in finding out how different.

"Yeah, it is. I was worried for a second, but I'm guessing we're not exactly studying the same kind."

To put it lightly.

"Never heard of it, I'm afraid." he answered, shaking his head. As far as Waver knew, the Clock Tower was the only school of magecraft. At the very least, it was the predominant one in the world.

"And I bet if I asked whether or not that wand was your Mystic Code, you'd have no idea what I meant. Right?"

Waver made an attempt not to look too eager--magical theory from a completely unknown world, oh man--but he definitely seemed interested in learning as much as possible. Of course it was only fair he answer questions as much as ask them.

"It's sort of a blanket term for a wide range of magical weaponry--commonly, any artifact that can amplify, support, or strengthen magecraft. One family uses gemstones, and I think my teacher used to manipulate some kind of liquid mercury. It's not really common as far as I know of to use wands in the traditional sense of the word, but I'm sure there must be some people that do it. "

[personal profile] velveteenmage 2013-09-19 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Fascinating..." Luckily, Waver was both a genius and paid attention. With his miserable lineage and mediocre talents, he couldn't afford not to on either count. And speaking of that...

"Wait--what about Magic Circuits? If a wand is itself the main conductor of magical energy rather than an amplifier, that could theoretically bypass the need for them entirely--"

This was Waver looking like Harry had just told him breathing was a silly thing and no one actually needed to do it. Sure, the ability to perform magecraft without a wand suggested it wasn't a necessity, and yet the way the concept was being explained made it sound utterly impossible going off Waver's understanding of magical functions. Even for what was almost certainly an alternate world, these were some heavy concepts to process.

"Next you're likely going to tell me you've never heard that either; Magic Circuits are kind of a secondary nervous system. In simple terms, they're what allow someone to control and use magic at all. Have you ever heard of any concept sounding like that?"

"Wow. That's...by the Tower's standards that should be impossi--"

RECORD SCRATCH.

"...Go back. That part about magi being born to normal parents. Is that norma--common, I mean? Is that something that just happens?

Strangely enough, Waver sounded frantic but looked damn hopeful.

Her handshake was firm and strong without being overly aggressive. Just a big, tough girl making nice with little awareness of how rough she could be. Amusement glittered in her eyes too bright green for normal humans.

"Nice to meet'cha Harry! Sorry if I was just...woosh. Y'know?" she remarked, gesturing over her head with one hand to indicate a rush of words and information passing him by.

"I can be kind of a bit much sometimes, for some people. Ha, well. Okay probably like, everyone, ever, but that's just 'cause people can't handle a chick with grit. Not my problem."

She shrugged, propping her fists on her hips with a wince. Whether from the bandages around her knuckles of the bandages peeking from under her tank-top was his guess.

"S~o, how can I help? Anything, just ask. Chances are pretty good if I don't have the answers I can get you someone who does!"

She grinned then, and her mouth was full of perfect teeth - normal teeth - but she still evoked the image of a smiling shark. All teeth and predatory nature, but harmless as long as it wasn't hungry for you.

The poor kid almost looked like he was going to faint.

"L-let me just ask...are they inherently any better or worse at controlling magic than anyone else?"

"I'm...I'm great. That's the best thing I think I've ever heard."

Coming somewhat to his senses, Waver paused before becoming quite flustered that the conversation had gotten that far that quickly.

"I-I, er...s-sorry, I got way ahead of myself. My name's Waver Velvet, and like I said I'm a student at the Clock Tower in London. I'm...a third-generation magus."

Calming down from that sudden burst of embarrassment, Waver frowned slightly.

"...Which in case you're not aware, isn't something one flaunts. 'Pathetic' is usually the associated term. Just imagining that what you're saying could hold true somewhere is...that validates all of my theories and my entire thesis paper. It's amazing, frankly."

Beastboy was hard at work today in the kitchenette of their apartment. With a floppy chef's hat on his messy green hair he whistled a cheerful little tune as he worked on his latest vegan creation. Soy cheese being sprinkled ontop of what appeared to be a pizza in the making. To be fair it wasn't much of a Kitchen area, more like a stack of kitchen related appliances plugged into a wall. The apartments didn't have their own kitchens after all.

But it was impressive what Beastboy could do with a Hotplate.

Rita meanwhile was sat on the sofa using the D-terminal they shared, catching up on the days events. The apartment was messy but not impossible to navigate. Her keyboard sat to one side along with a recently purchased guitar that she was teaching herself to play.

Little did they know today would be a special day for any particular reason.

"...So there's still a class-based divide even with bloodline itself not proving as much of a factor... Guess I shouldn't be surprised."

He sighed, but managed an awkward smile all the same.

"It's really great to meet you. Sorry I got so excited, but...well, it's not all that often I talk to anyone that really knows much about magic in any form."
