He was a mutant freak that would be despised by society if they knew of his existence, the first girl he loved saw never saw him as anything besides a friend and even then she would probably want to be with another human, and the second girl accepted him, but living in parallel worlds and one being sent back ended everything abruptly. But there was still that part of him that wasn't ready to give up hoping yet.
