Martin heard more than saw Chris enter, sitting as he was at a table near the front with his back slightly to the door, arms folded up restfully behind his head. Adele was seated in a spare chair while Cody was under the table with a piece of paper and a couple of crayons, drawing enthusiastically.

He half-expected to hear an immediate greeting from his brother although when none came, he realized with amusement that Chris hadn't seen him right away.

...Naturally, he waited until Chris was walking right past him to give his own greeting.
