The Digital World had been having a great deal of earthquakes the last six months. The first was the largest of them and had ended in the shifting of the planes. Since then earthquakes happened periodically, often sending new Chosen Children with it. At first it was Chosen that the Digital World knew and rejoiced, but now and then it would send new Chosen.

Today was different, however. The earthquake that rattled the Digital World felt almost as bad as the first, but there was a difference this time. Suddenly dozens of children were making their way to the Digital World. Destiny was calling and so were their partners...

Every chute in the Terminal Room activated while the small Digimon known as Culumon trembled with excitement. There were so many lonely Digimon that had appeared recently and--finally-- their partners had arrived!

This was drifting into some philosophical territory for Beastboy. Luckily happiness was his favorite subject.

"Well, when you help others, and make them happy? It makes you feel good inside." He tapped his chest over his heart.

"And it spreads. Happy people make other people happy."

"I...do not believe I have experienced what you speak of."

He had given his life out of a sense of responsibility; he saved Iori's grandfather because he knew he should have, and sealing the gate to the Digital World had been the same.

That sounded...oddly sad. And Beastboy looked rightfully baffled but like most things he didn't understand, he shrugged it off.

"There's still plenty of time then. And I'll help. Come on we can be friends." He offered a gloved hand for a shake."

The monstrous Digimon hesitated. Friendship was only ever offered to him once before. Would this truly be what he needed?

He looked down at his hand, taking a deep breath. The only way to find out would be to try...

He began to extend his gauntlet, then hesitated again, pulling back a little. Slower this time, he held out his hand, waiting for Beastboy to grasp it.

Fearlessly Beastboy accepted the massive hand and shook it as best as his scrawny arm could.

"Excellent! Do you like video games? How about movies? Comic books? what do you do for fun?" He offered some of his own favorite subjects in exchange.

He was surprised at the boy's enthusiasm, to say the least.

"I...do not know any of those," BlackWargreymon confessed. He broke eye contact. "I only know how to fight."

Beastboy seemed to take it in stride. "Well don't worry dude! We've got plenty of time...probably. I don't really know. But there's no one to fight now."

Then an idea struck him. "How about candy? Do you like candy?"

Psychemon could sense where this was going and unzipped a purse she had tucked under her arm.

Taken aback by all this, at first BlackWargreymon was uncertain how he should respond.

"No, I do not need to eat anything." His reply shows a certain lack of understanding of the question.

[changelingdude]

The green boy blinked and then laughed cheerfully.

"That's cool! But it's not about need to. Here." He plucked a brightly wrapped treat from Psychemon's offered paw and unwrapped it. It was a bar of chocolate. Simple, but delightful. He took one of Blackwargreymon's massive claws and placed the chocolate in his palm.

"Taste it! See what you think." Beastboy encouraged hoping that Digimon weren't like some animals and would get sick eating candy.

For a few seconds, all the Digimon does is stare at it. Then, with another tilt of his head, BlackWargreymon carefully took the piece, and brought it up to sniff it. Gingerly, he opened his mouth and put the bar on his tongue.

Beastboy waited in eager anticipation, eyes wide and grin broad. Clearly he expected Blackwargreymon's first taste of a convenience store chocolate bar to be a deeply moving experience.

The chocolate was very strange on his tongue, but being a Control Spire Digimon, he had never eaten anything before in the first place. The taste was...odd, yet not entirely unpleasant. He chewed it slowly and swallowed, uncertain what to make of it.

Beastboy's grin was broader with each passing second.

"That's nothing! There's all kinds of different ways you can mix chocolate with other stuff! Peanut butter, caramel, berries, tofu-"

Psychemon cut him off at this point to go "Ew." Which elicited a look of shock from the little green one.

"DUDE! Tofu is great! You just haven't had it how I make it. Don't worry though I'll fix it."

"Tofu?"

BlackWargreymon had never heard of it. He didn't know why Psychemon would be adverse to it either.

[changelingdude]

"Dude! Tofu is the BEST!" Beastboy cheered. "It goes great with everything. And it's harm free. Since I've been most of the animals people eat I feel weird about eating meat ya know?"

Psychemon was unconvinced. "Tofu tastes bland to me."

BlackWargreymon found himself having some difficulty following the conversation. This kept him quiet for the moment, observing the two with interest.

"Ya gotta at least let me TRY and cook a vegetarian meal for you." Beastboy insisted and finally Psychemon agreed...though begrudgingly.

"Sweet! In fact, I'll make enough for everyone so you can try it too big guy!" He declared to BlackWargreymon.

Beastboy's offer didn't help BlackWargreymon much. He still wasn't certain how he should be answering such an invitation. He blinked, trying to fathom a reply.

"I would be...grateful." Or so he hoped.

[changelingdude]

"This is gonna be great!" He cheered and even gave a jump in the air. "New friends, new adventures...I mean yeah I'm gonna miss the Titans but DUDE I'm gonna have some stories to tell." He babbled excitedly, also perhaps betraying some sense of denial.

If any such denial was portrayed, it was beyond BlackWargreymon.

"Who are the...Titans?"

[changelingdude]

"Oh sorry dude!" He snapped back into the moment, "The Titans were my friends back home. They were like family really." He explained producing a piece of paper and rapidly scribbling down some drawings of dubious quality.

"We're a super hero team. The Teen Titans fight evil and protect the innocent!" He declared proudly.

The Digimon took a moment to consider all of this.

"For what reason do you fight evil?"

[changelingdude]

That took Beastboy by surprise and he thought about it for a moment.

"I just...hate seeing people sad." He explained blushing, feeling a little sheepish. "I want people to be happy. And I got these powers through luck and people who loved me. So I figured it would be the right thing to do. I met a bunch of other people who wanted to save the world, then over time I actually got pretty good at it."

That left BlackWarGreymon a little stunned. He didn't realize that there could be so much so this.

"Then...you were not apt at saving the world when you first began?"

[changelingdude]

He burst out laughing at the thought.

"O-oh dude...oh no way. I was just a little kid. I had the heart sure, but I didn't have the training, or the will. You gotta work up to that stuff."

"And when I was younger I couldn't turn into bigger animals. That took practice and work in the field. But if you want it bad enough then anything's possible."
