The Digital World had been having a great deal of earthquakes the last six months. The first was the largest of them and had ended in the shifting of the planes. Since then earthquakes happened periodically, often sending new Chosen Children with it. At first it was Chosen that the Digital World knew and rejoiced, but now and then it would send new Chosen.

Today was different, however. The earthquake that rattled the Digital World felt almost as bad as the first, but there was a difference this time. Suddenly dozens of children were making their way to the Digital World. Destiny was calling and so were their partners...

Every chute in the Terminal Room activated while the small Digimon known as Culumon trembled with excitement. There were so many lonely Digimon that had appeared recently and--finally-- their partners had arrived!

The clanking of a prosthetic leg brings BlackWargreymon out of his thoughts. He looks down at the boy, and the Digimon riding on his back.

"You must be one of the Chosen," he says, ignoring the air of worry that both boy and Digimon partner were exhibiting.

"I uh....yeah." Is all Hiccup can really manage, not noticing that Gomamon's using his head as a shield, as if he thinks BlackWargreymon might try to eat them. "...Are....are you a Digimon?"

BlackWargreymon nods. "I am BlackWargreymon. From what I can determine, I am here for the same reason as you."

[trainsurdragons]

"It's nice to meet you then, BlackWargreymon. I'm Hiccup, and-" "I'm G-Gomamon." Gomamon can't help but introduce himself, as spooked as he is.

[whatisthislife]

The small Digimon's concern finally gets to BlackWargreymon, and he kneels down.

"I am sorry, Gomamon, for frightening you. I have no intention of causing harm, to you or to Hiccup."

[trainsurdragons]

"Wh...who ever said anythin' about....bein' frightened, eh?" Gomamon stammers a bit, prompting Hiccup to reach up and pat the side of his face gently, startling him enough to make him jump.

"Take it easy there Gomamon. This guy is a friend."

"I...I AM takin' it easy!"

That gives BlackWargreymon pause.

"...Friend?"

Not even Agumon had been so quick to offer friendship to him, and even then, Agumon hadn't done so with such...ease.

"...Well, yeah!" Hiccup smiles, looking back up at the Digimon. Of course, he's used to befriending things much, much larger than he is. Gomamon on the other hand isn't so keen on the idea. "Well...well uh...more....more like a-acquaintances, really."

[whatisthislife]

"Most would find me too...intimidating, to call me a friend so quickly. What makes you different?"

The monstrous Digimon had only ever found Agumon to be so relaxed around him.

[trainsurdragons]

"Well...I dunno." Hiccup shrugs, rubbing the back of his neck a little. "I always try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt I guess. ...I mean, it wouldn't be fair if I just ran away screaming without getting to know you first, right?" Gomamon hisses in his ear, tugging on his collar, "Yaknow actually that might not be the worst idea you've ever had..."

"Your partner seems to disagree."'

Purposefully, BlackWargreymon makes eye contact with Gomamon.

[trainsurdragons]

"My partner is just being rude." Gomamon jumps and shakes his head quickly, "N-no I'm not, no I'm not! Honest!!"

"He is afraid. It is nothing new to me."

The monstrous Digimon doesn't seem hung up on this, just...aware of it.

[trainsurdragons]

"No I....I'm n-not afraid." Gomamon swallows hard, staring up at BlackWargreymon, half hidden behind Hiccup's head. Though clearly- if he's not afraid- he's definitely not comfortable at all.

"If you are not afraid, then show it."

BlackWargreymon still has little patience for such behavior, it seems.

Though he doesn't feel like he should, Hiccup decides to come to Gomamon's rescue, sighing and patting one of his fins with a free hand. "Don't mind him. He's not good at first impressions." Hiccup doesn't notice the glare Gomamon shoots him that says, 'What would YOU know about how good I am at anything?'

"He is...not alone, in that." BlackWargreymon could remember meeting only Agumon without causing some significant harm.

[trainsurdragons]

"Well...don't worry." Hiccup glances at Gomamon out of the corner of his eye with a sigh. "We are friends. Or...we're going to be. I mean, if we're all going to be stuck here, I'd rather make friends than enemies."

[whatisthislife]

"Agreed, Hiccup. I thank you for that." He can only hope that Gomamon will come to understand that he has no intentions of causing any destruction, or harm.

[trainsurdragons]

One day, perhaps. But for now Hiccup will be the speaker for the pair, because Gomamon has taken to hiding behind his head again. "Well if I can thank you for one thing, it's that Gomamon hasn't been THIS quiet since I met him."

"HEY."

That...almost makes BlackWargreymon laugh. Behind his helm, the barest hint of a smile plays at the corners of his mouth, barely suppressed, but impossible to see. This...this is the first time he's felt this way. He had never given himself the chance to before, but...now he might be able to understand why others find such fulfillment in mirth. It's...a good feeling, one he would like to have more.

"You are...welcome."

Hiccup smiles, reaching up to absently scratch the side of Gomamon's face. The Digimon opens his mouth to say something, but he sortof goes limp over Hiccup's shoulder, making a small noise of satisfaction.

"So, BlackWargreymon. Do you know why you were brought to this place, or are you as clueless as the rest of us..?"

[whatisthislife]

"I do not know the reason I am here, any more than you do. However, I was the cause of significant distortions in the Digital World in my past life. There is a chance I was brought here to atone for that."

The solemn tone belies much deeper pain, but BlackWargreymon doesn't show it. He does not wish for Hiccup to feel he had caused any distress.

The boy just nods a little. There's no way he can completely understand, but if something bad happened to the Digimon, he can sympathize with him. He's definitely no stranger to conflict, and lots of it. "Well that's great! ...If that's the case, that is."

"Do you believe that?" Hard to imagine that anyone would think he should have the chance to make up for what he's done, or to think he ever could.
