[The hockey stick makes it a little weird to hang on to Cam, but Maya doesn't fall off and that's really what matters. It would really suck if she got hurt doing something boring like riding on a lion-dog. And the fact that she just called riding on a lion-dog boring says a lot about the Terminal Tokyo life.
It is kind of boring compared to fighting, though. Of course, she's not gonna say that because everyone just wants her safe.
