The New Guy
Who: Shannon and Roze.
What: Meeting the new roomie and a date.
When: Backdated to December 6th.
Where: Apt F3-09 and on the town.
Finishing up with her shower, Roze poured herself into a slinky green dress and her trademark thigh-high stilettos. Piles of long pink hair too wet to be troubled with were whipped into a quick braid and a few rose-shapped twists, then pinned atop her head.
Shannon might not be able to appreciate the effort, but Roze never went out into public with anything less than her best face - normally. And the dress was more conservative than usual - she hoped it might aid in her not making an ass of herself and inspire a little more modesty for the evening.
Probably not, but at least she was trying.
When she exited the bathroom, the inordinately tall girl felt fairly good about her plans, even if they were more spontaneous than usual. She'd be lying if she said she weren't nervous or excited. She loved sudden plans, after all.
"Hey, anyone out there?" she called around the corner into the room.
If Shannon had already left, she'd just kick back on the couch to wait. Otherwise, she strolled out, looming at 6'4" in her heels with legs that didn't quit, hips for grip and a rack capable of hosting a clearance sale. Cranberry-colored nails tapped idly on the scabbard of a long blade as she hummed to herself, finishing the song she'd been singing as she smiled and waited politely for new companions to familiarize themselves with equally new surroundings.

"I bought a couple of my friends new coats, because theirs got really messed up, and before that I spent everything I had on this huge party to help everyone in town get to know each other and recover from one of the attacks on the city. I couldn't afford anything like that this time, and I don't think anyone would go, anyways. Last thing I bought was a dress for myself that I was gonna wear on my birthday. I thought someone would at least take me out."
She shrugged, clucking her tongue softly and heading for the door and out into the hall, keeping a casual pace.
"You know how that went."
no subject
"Well, you could always consider this a belated birthday present," Shannon offered. "Hot guy, hot date. Cute dog. Getting a good walk across town. What better way to celebrate, huh?" Yeah, okay, maybe that was a bit sarcastic. Not like Shannon could help it; he very rarely employed those filter things people were always telling him about.
no subject
"True though - hot guy, hot date, cute dog trifecta with a bonus snarky Digimon. I must have hit the lottery," the green-eyed girl drawled, clasping her hands behind her back and tossing her hair.
"You want me to tell you things that are on the way as we pass so you can map it out or you gonna go walking out on your own some time? I'm sure you'll be pointing things out too," she remarked, addressing Kera.
no subject
"Why don't we start with general districts," Shannon suggested. He had caught onto something of the tone in Kera's voice, but couldn't identify it. The lack of exact recognition bothered him, though not quite the end result it came out to. "We'll work our way down to specifics later on. Like... where are we now in the city? Where's this building?"
no subject
For Shannon, of course, she maintained her casual tone. Shannon wasn't a snotty little shit. If she knew sign-language and knew Kera could understand it she might have carried on an entire shadow conversation. Roze did not do well when challenged in any manner. Anyone could tell her latest friend that she was hyper-aggressive when provoked.
"Districts. Right. Okay..." she turned a few times, orienting herself and trying to remember everywhere she'd been against her internal map, holding her fingers up and pointing for her own purposes. As they walked she told him the particular areas, leaving fine detail for another time. She was through, but easy to follow, focusing on key buildings and districts more than anything. All she could really do was give Shannon the means to get from the apartments to Palette Town, but that was good enough, considering he'd have Kera and Lacey the rest of the time.
It wasn't long at all before she announced they were within a few blocks of the enormous entertainment and shopping center that straddled the main river. Not that he couldn't hear and smell it.

Shannon merely listened, enraptured and obviously concentrating on some level to lay out a mental map of the area as they traveled. He asked a few clarifying questions here and there, but managed to soak most of it up wordlessly. Just enjoying the walk was enough for him. Kera had been suspiciously quiet as well, letting Shannon's contentedness seep through to him.
"Oh God," Shannon said as the smells finally hit him. "Didn't realize how hungry I was until just now. That smells great."
no subject
"Well, lets grab something quick then yeah?" she laughed, rolling her eyes and sliding her arm in to loop with the man's, nodding for Kera to come as well. She'd buy for everyone, play-enemies included. "We'll order a sit down meal here, go easy, and we'll grab take-out to carry to the apartment on the way out after grabbing some clothes. Sound good?"
no subject
Shannon stumbled a bit at her arm, then recovered quickly and continued on like normal. Never let it be said that Shannon Vaughn could not go with the flow. Hell, his entire life was practically going with the flow when the flow wasn't trying to knock him off a cliff. "Sounds perfect," he agreed. "We'll find something for Lacey while we look for clothes, too."
no subject
"You sure you're not to tired for all this running around?" she asked as they made their way into the food court and towards the Japanese restaurant. "I mean...I'm pretty much always scooping people up into one thing or another, but you kinda threw yourself at this trip with a lot of gusto for someone just gettin' here. I don't wanna make you sick of me before you've even really got good reasons to be. -- We're here. want me to ask if they've got braille menus?" she asked, squinting at the specials board.
"They got specials on tempura udon, omakase and the seafood hibachi. If you want to go big, hibachi is nice but the fire might spook Lacey."
no subject
Kera moved around them, finally pulling himself off the ground and floating like any proper Keramon usually did. He put a hand on Shannon's shoulder and used it to float even higher and look at the menu himself. Shannon wrinkled his nose, but said nothing to suddenly being some kind of ladder for his digimon. "I can ask about the menu, don't worry about it. Or we could just do hibachi — we've done it before. Hibachi is pretty expensive, though, even when it's on special."
no subject
"I'll be ordering a few pieces a la carte, too, so just get whatever you guys want, okay? Meanwhile I'll just wait here and try and pretend you didn't mention you work with the police," she added with a snorted laugh.
no subject
"I want some of that," Kera said unceremoniously, pointing toward one of the sushi rolls on offer in the menu Roze held. He had switched shoulders and now loomed between them to inspect what else was on offer for dinner that night.
no subject
"Ugh. Quail eggs. I always feel guilty. Ah, but they have fatty tuna..." she mumbled, more to herself than either of them.
"Huh? No I wouldn't call it a dealbreaker but uh....I spend a lot of time on the wrong side of the law," the girl confessed, clearing her throat and laughing weakly. "I don't know how much you know about Japanese culture. Suffice to say I'm in a gang. Well...lead a gang. Whatever."
no subject
Shannon gave a quick scoff of laughter. "Those are my favorites, but I didn't expect to find them in an authentic joint like this. Oh, thank you," he said aside as a menu was pressed against his arm. He tapped it against his chest while he replied, "Honestly? I'm not an officer. I just help catch the guys that catch their attention. And it's a good thing to put those people away, but there isn't anything I can do here about that. Unless you're planning to start a smuggling ring out of our apartment?"
no subject
"My mom, on the other hand? She's in and out of jail all the time."
no subject
"But, if that was a deflection from talking about you and to start talking about your mom instead..." Shannon shrugged. He wasn't going to complain.
no subject
"I only mentioned it because I inherited the gang from her and talking about her makes me look like saint," she added with a laugh, leaning back in her chair.
"I can talk about me all you like. You were supposed to grill me, officer."

"Demons is a blanket term back home for anything not human. It covers everything from dragons and faeries to kappa and tengu. People like me come from loads of marriage into demon lines to breed the very best, most skilled and flexible warriors to police the territories and mediate interactions. Mostly just lots of fighting and jurisdictional bullshit. LOADS of racism and elitism."
no subject
It would stand to reason that just as people bred themselves for generations to become the perfect mix of genes and magic, that some people would be born into the lines who wanted nothing to do with it. Like Eli, compared to Javier, Matheus, Harvey... any of the others. (He himself had no idea where he fit on the spectrum, wasn't sure he even belonged in it without memories of what everyone else was on about.)
Maybe Shannon was reading into it too much.

"There's a ritual when Guardians turn eighteen. We're neutral and untouchable until then. After that we're fair game to be hunted down, and we have to accept our role as Guardians and begin meting out justice and handling disputes, etcetra. Lots of Guardians don't make it to nineteen."
no subject
"There's nobody here to hunt her down anyway," Kera said. It sounded, like many of the things he said, as though he thought the concern Roze was putting into it was rather dumb. "So who cares?"
no subject
"And I'm not technically underaged. Sheesh. I'm not underaged at all. I haven't been for years, since age of consent in my birth village is fourteen. I could be married with kids right now, y'know," the girl grumped, taking a swig of her tea and bristling.
"And you never know, someone here could be a hunter or part of the church." She sighed, looking off to the side before rolling her eyes and looking at them both. "My father is here. And if I join the demons instead of the humans, that means we could have to kill each other some day. So he's potentially an enemy, despite being a direct relation. Sort of. He isn't anymore, technically. Its a long story."
no subject
Shannon shook his head, trying to work the logic of that. Yes, a lot of them didn't make it to 19, apparently, but wouldn't that just engender some sort of natural selection response in the community? He probably shouldn't be analyzing something he didn't really understand, but he couldn't help it. It was part of what made him a good aide to the police, and definitely what made him a huge pain in the ass to people who weren't used to him spouting shit all the time.
"Wait," he said quickly. "Your father but not your father is here? And he's sided with the guys you're against?" Now why did that sound familiar? he thought a bit wryly.
"This is such an excellent first date," Kera commented. "Is our food coming soon or what?"
no subject
"And just to clarify, contrary to popular belief, Japanese people tend to have normal lifespans like any other human. The age of consent is different from one place to another in Japan and a lot of the mountain villages have pretty low ages. Once we moved to Shinjuku though the age went up. I was just making a point about it."
She sighed, tossing her hair and casting a look over at the chef's bar. Prepping sushi tended to be quick, but they had ordered a fair amount.
"My father died when I was an infant. He used his own abilities to possess an infant body and grew up alongside me so he wouldn't have to abandon his family or something. Didn't quite work like he wanted but whatever. So...spiritually we're related, but genetically we're not, anymore. Since his first body died. You follow?"
