New Years Festival!

Who: EVERYONE! Chosen and Partners, Damemon, Deputymon, Starmon too!
What: The New Year's Festival and Masquerade Ball
Where: Shinjuku Gyoen in the Park
When: December 31st

December 31st has at last arrived, and despite certain events depriving the Digital World of the original creator, the people involved with the New Years Festival managed to pull through. With Roze's work already underway and the designs and directions sent out, it wasn't hard to finish what had been started.

At mid-afternoon, a general text was sent out to all the D-Terminals announcing the festival grounds as open. Going to the Shinjuku Gyoen part of the park revealed a tiny wonderland of games and food manned by Chosen, Partners and Damemon alike.

Every Chosen and Partner have Damemon helpers and shifts rotate at each stall, making certain no one is kept from enjoying themselves to the fullest.

To either side of the festival grounds are picnic areas set up with several tables, all surrounded by bright white and yellow string lights. The four rows of game and food stalls are all decorated with large red paper lanterns, paper dragons and bright string lights, allowing the festivities to proceed well after dark.

At the front of the entire festival grounds Roze's Digimon - Julie the Impmon and Musashi the Kotemon - hand out copies of a simple map. On the back of each map the times for the masquerade dance are printed in case people forgot the time from their invitations.

In the Taiwan Pavilion, from the start of the festival to the end, Maya Matlin and Ryan Evans play music on piano and cello, rotating with Neku Sakuraba who maintains a steady flow of pre-arranged music. Several times throughout the day a handful of Digimon put on a simple but entertaining Taiko drum performance. Two long buffet tables filled with food and punch stay full throughout the day and night.

Jin Uzuki teaches calligraphy at one stall, as well as performs tea ceremony and lectures on Japanese traditions for those not educated on the themes presented by the festival.

Squall Leonhart stands sentinel over the Kingyo Sukui (goldfish catching) stall.

Campbell Saunders covers the ball toss, where people can try their luck knocking down milk bottles.

The Medicine Seller mans the Okonomiyaki cart, where people are free to order any combination of ingredients and eat hot food straight from the iron.

Mikasa Ackerman covers a colorful and pleasant-smelling stall where festival-goers can choose from dozens of bananas on sticks, the fruit dipped in different flavored coatings and numerous toppings.

Shannon Vaughn and Eli Delacroix cover the stall on the center walk where those at the festival can pick up sparklers and handmade papier-mâché masks for fun or the masquerade, if they have none of their own.

A ping pong toss with water-filled glass bowls sits with a pair of Damemon attendants cheering on participants.

Next to the Okonomiyaki cart, Saori Nakagawa and Laguna Loire provide fresh Takoyaki (octopus balls) on sticks, steaming and delicious.

The local Prince, Rowan, cheerily provides personal pies or slices of ready-made large ones and chats amiably with anyone who happens to be drawn in by meat or fruit fillings inside flaky crusts.

Cheerful little Miwako Sakurada watches the Yoyo Tsuri (water balloon yoyo) cart, balloons in bright splashes of color floating in a rotating pool of water, casting a rainbow across the cloth roof of the stall.

The ever large and boisterous Rider struts around a Strongman Hammer game, jeering and cajoling the men and complimenting the women, making bets and offering arm-wrestling competitions.

Little Wily-Kit has a raised platform surrounded by cushions where people can sit and listen to her play the flupe and regale them with tales from her homeland.

Dante sits at a stall of his own, playing guitar when he's not giving kisses for donations to the festival fund.

A ring toss game where one can try to put small rings around the necks of glass bottles stands manned by two Damemon arguing restlessly about the arrangement of the bottles.

Waver Velvet and his Wizardmon stand to dazzle onlookers with card tricks and details of magic performed in Waver's homeland.

Next to Wily-Kit's storytelling and Waver's tricks, Harry Potter serves up a variety of hot drinks close to the front of the festival so people have something to warm their hands and bellies while they enjoy the festivities.

Throughout the entire festival ground, Seifer Almasy and his hand-picked group of Digimon patrol the area, ejecting trouble-makers and seeing to damages while Yu Narukami and his team keep supplies full and assist Seifer with damage control.

The festival continues on through the day until the Masquerade Ball begins. All the stalls close and people are free to dress and attend as they like. Food and punch remains present and the music continues until midnight, when masks are to be removed and the New Year begins!

Re: 9:30pm, half an hour into the dance...

Tetsushi eyes were welling up with tears as he saw Roze. She was not gone all that long, but to her father it had felt like years. He dashed half way over to her stopping when he realized he would be making a scene. Patamon was hovered in tow.

Tetsushi's suit and mask did nothing to hide his identity. It also seemed the suit was wearing him more than he was wearing it. Its black color stood out against his skin and his thin black strip mask matched. Patamon had his own black mask and bow tie that he was rather proud of.

After Tetsushi finally reached Roze he took a small bow. His eyes were still full of tears, but he was smiling none the less.

"I'm glad to see you."

Tetsushi opened his arms for a hug in the hopes that she actually would.

She stared at the man for several long moments, anger rising to her face in an instant before being schooled to a perfect, cold sort of calm. She did not go to him, did not hug him. She barely wanted to speak to him.

"Yes. Well, I'm back, so there's nothing to worry about now, is there?" she snorted softly, turning her eyes coolly away from him and gazing out across the dance imperiously. She had no desire to communicate overmuch with the man-child and being forced to discuss their past.

Tetsushi slowly lowered his arms and put his hands into his pockets. He looked dejected. he continued standing there staring at Roze. He was trying to think about what to say, but was having a hard time coming up with the words. He then turn his gaze to the floor.

"Well there is plenty to worry about, but you are back safe and sound that's all that really matters, the rest we can work out at a later date."

"Tetsushi..." she huffs a sigh, stretches her nose and licks her lips, all signs of schooling her expression to remain as calm as possible.

"Look. I understand what you're trying to do. I do. I can even appreciate it from a different point of view. But you're spending all your time trying to make me forgive you and let you in and you don't even care what I went through. I left ages after you did. All the weeks of in-fighting and bickering and you never even tried to apologize for the lies, not really. Like I was just supposed to accept everything and move on?"

She scoffed, rolled her eyes and shook her head.

"And now? After going back, and knowing even more? You have no idea what happened. You remain one of the most selfish people I know."

"You think I'm selfish? I don't think you understand at all, all that I have given up or all that I would give up to protect you and I will not explain it. I don't think you understand that every time I try to even say sorry you push me away. I don't think that you just need to accept what happened and move on. I think that you need to understand what happen and work with me so we can get to a place that we can both move past it together."

Tetsushi stopped and looked down for a second at his cliched fist. His hand was shaking from the anger that welled up in him.

"Roze, I am sorry, I could say it a thousand time and it will never be enough. What I did was wrong and I know it. I had the best of attentions in mind and I messed up. I am truly sorry. I ask that you don't judge me on things that I have not done yet. I may have done things, things that I think are truly wrong in that timeline for lack of a better word, but I have no clue why I did it or If I even will do it when I make back. I don't want to hurt you ever again. So what ever I did it was the actions of an idiot and more mistakes of father who was just trying to do his best."

He could be seen clearly crying as he looked back up to her. Tetsushi was not one to hide his emotions and was not afraid to cry even it made him look ugly. He saw emotions as power and would embrace them.

"But If you want I will leave. I will leave and never come back. I don't want this at all, but if you think it's for the best. I will leave you life. You can act like I died all those year ago."

She clenched her teeth, forcing a bland smile to remain on her face the whole time, staring hard at Tetsushi. Though it didn't show, anger was rising like bile at the back of her throat and she was possessed of a powerful urge to thoroughly throttle the little worm. And she was related to him?

"You sit here, and try to convince me that you aren't selfish, but you've never even asked what you do. You've never even tried to understand me. It isn't a child's responsibility to understand the actions of their parent. I am not obligated to do anything for you, least of all believe that you have nothing but my best interest in mind."

She inhaled deeply, forcing herself to calm, knowing that if she wasn't careful, she'd make a scene. Much as she liked fighting - an urge tempered in her later years - she had no wish to cause a commotion at the party.

"And then, after all of this demand for pity and perspective, you turn it around and go out of your way to guilt trip me, saying you leave if its what I want, because clearly I'm the big bad villain, making your life suffering, running you off from your friends. Leave my life. Act like you died. Oh yes. These are clearly the words and actions of a loving parents desperate for the love an understanding of their child. If you want to leave so badly and free yourself from you guilt then go Tetsushi. Go. But know that you do so without my blessing and without my forgiveness."

She turned then, waving a hand dismissively, expression one of barely contained contempt. She was not interested in talking to him any further, and departed immediately to find somewhere else to stand in peace.

Tetsushi only stood there for a second before he grabbed her shoulder. He didn't grab it roughly or forcefully just gently enough to stop her for a second.

"Yes I am selfish because I wanting to still be apart of your life, that is apparently selfish. I know I never asked what I did. I am sorry, but I thought with time you would be adult and talk about it. I was apparently wrong there as well. I also don't ever want your pity, your perspective maybe never your pity."

Tetsushi made a swallowing noise even though he had nothing in his mouth. His head hung low in defeat. No matter what he said at this point it wouldn't matter or at least he thought.

"You are always going to be my daughter whether it brings you shame or pride. You don't know what it means to be family yet, but in time I hope you will figure it out. I'm not the only selfish one here. You have not even thought about how I feel in all this or what it it took to do what I felt had to be done. All you cared about about was how it affected you. As mush as you hate me right now and are mad at me. I am disappointed in you."

Tetsushi turned and walked away calmly, he didn't look back once, his gaze was still cast to the floor.
