As Plain As the Scar on His Face

Who: Kovu, anyone! (particularly Fluttershy and Ed and probably Hollyleaf and Nala too)
What: Kovu's journey on the Trailmon
Where: Primary Village, the Trailmon, any Terminals/rest stops along the way, maybe nearby towns?
When: Starting the morning after the city disappears on 1/1, all the way up to the arrival in Hospitown (sometime between 1/8 and 1/12 maybe).

Even just watching Kovu these past couple of weeks has been heartbreaking for Lopmon. He'd never thought that someone could go through so much pain just because of what had happened to them in their past, but Kovu...he'd barely even spoken to his own partners in the last two weeks, or to Hollyleaf, and she was at his new apartment checking on him all the time. Lopmon had been worried they wouldn't be able to get Kovu out of the apartment, after he heard what Jupitermon had said about the entire city of Chosen. The guy could barely even move after that, but at least he let them lead him out and get to Primary Village safely.

The Trailmon headed for the first stop on the way to Hospitown has just started boarding, and Lopmon is right beside Kovu, trying his best to stay at least a little more cheerful than his two partners. Strabimon was there, and he's been feeling worse and worse since that Liamon attacked Kovu and Hollyleaf. After Kovu broke his mirror, Strabimon had started to retreat into himself the same way Kovu did. Lopmon's been getting worried for both of them, and that if this keeps up this way, he might lose both his partners. If only he could think of some way to try to help them both feel better...

[ooc: This is the catchall log for most of what Kovu'll be doing during the migration. Just pick whatever day and place you want and put that in the subject line when you reply. Chili's frown deepened and she turned away, head bowed shamefully "Not all the time no..."

Beastboy tried to defuse the situation in vain "Aw come on dude we all make mistakes. Let's just laugh it off huh? No one got hurt and now we've got all this free junk food!"

"It sort of feels wrong but...well it's not like we can put it back." Rita commented bringing over the spoils of their misguided attempts to fix the machine.

Beastboy plucked a chocolate bar out of the pile. "Here dude, try one of these. Chocolate makes everything better." Secretly he was more excited to see yet another non-human try what was arguably man kinds greatest invention.

A few moments pass before Kovu finally seems to accept Beastboy's suggestion to let it go. He's still annoyed though, and scowling at the Gaomon for a couple seconds longer.

But then Beastboy is handing him something and he's backpedaling because he has no idea what it is. He looks at the...chocolate suspiciously, then eyes Beastboy with much the same expression. He takes the item and unwraps it, only to stare at the brown block of candy he's left with.

"...You guys eat this stuff?" It doesn't even smell that good...

Beastboy looked suspicious and a little disappointed. "Just try it dude. It's made from Choco beans and milk...and probably some wax and a bunch of chemicals, but it's awesome!"

So far in his introductions to being human he had found only two non-humans who didn't care for Chocolate. The rest had had their minds blown by the melty wonderful flavor.

...Chemicals. Appetizing.

Kovu sniffs at the bar and wrinkles his nose. He's smelled chocolate before around the cafe, but he never actually grabbed any of the stuff. It's...really weird. He takes a small bite and slowly chews it, but the longer it's on his tongue the more sour his expression becomes, until finally it looks like he'd just taken a bite of rotten meat. He blanches, but swallows it.

"Ugh! That's supposed to taste good?" He starts licking the back of his wrist, trying to get the bitter taste off his tongue.

"DUDE!" Beastboy's face fell and he buried his hands in it groaning.

"Oh come ON! It's gotta just be lions right? Maybe something's wrong with your tongue!"

Rita chuckled politely and offered to take it off Kovu's hands "Nala didn't like it either. And neither did Black Wargreymon if you remember."

Beastboy sighed and smiled again "Yeah well, no accounting for taste. I guess that means more for us. You can have all the jerky though if you want?

"Go ahead, pick anything else out you'd like to try, do you like spicy things?" Rita encouraged as she separated the pile into two smaller piles.

A few moments of licking himself pass before Kovu remembers that humans don't really do that, and he stops abruptly. Quickly he tries to look like he wasn't doing anything special at all, though he's not doing a terribly good job.

"Y-yeah. Just gimme all the jerky." The stuff was cooked so badly it was tough and chewy, but at least it's meat. Better than that bitter chocolate.

Rita nodded and continued to sort through the piles as Beastboy plucked another bag from the pile. This one was black and had what looked like a jar of something red on it.

"Alright try these." He insisted popping open the bag and digging out a barbecue flavored potato chip.

"We'll find some junk food to blow your mind if it's the last thing I do." He insisted. "I mean I get it, wild kingdom and all that. You know what you've been raised with...but there's a reason humans are the dominant species on our planet."

"I don't think so." Kovu recoils from the chip, not having any idea what that would taste like. He can't even figured out what it smells like.

"Aw come on dude!" Beastboy insisted leaning closer with the chip. "Where's your sense of adventure? I mean...I'm all for all natural foods. Chemical free fruits and veggies and all that...but junk food is one of life's simple pleasures!"

Chili muttered under her breath "If your life consists of sitting around reading comic books maybe."

Kovu's gotta agree with the Gaomon on this one. "I know most of the stuff humans eat doesn't even look like food, but that looks like it's not even edible."

Beastboy's usually cheerful face pouted like a child and he flicked the chip into his mouth crunching away.

"Delicious. I'm getting some serious lack of trust here dude. We're friends aren't we? I'd never steer you wrong!"

"At least not on purpose." Rita supplied completely unhelpful. It made Gaomon smirk though.

Kovu gestures at the remaining chocolate still in his hand. "You just made me eat the most bitter thing I've ever tasted."

He pouted like a child.

"It's not my fault you don't know quality when you taste it."

Folding his arms he studied the chocolate. "Maybe I should have started you off on cookies and cream flavor, or peanutbutter mixed with chocolate."

"Some how I just don't think that would help." Rita tried to explain. But Beastboy was having none of it.

"Come on dude, Crest of hope right? So you gotta keep hoping to find more new and wonderful things to nom nom nom on."

"...Your friends back home never liked your cooking much, did they?"

Something about this just seems way too desperate.

His ears drooped and Chili and Rita both burst out laughing.

"DUDE! Rude! I am an excellent cook! The finest vegan chef in Terminal Tokyo that's without a doubt!"

Rita's giggling was almost too much to speak "B-but Beastboy, you were the ONLY vegan chef in Terminal Tokyo."

"Not the point!" He flailed his arms in frustration.

No matter how hard he tries, Kovu can't help but crack a smile. Beastboy's reaction is just too over the top.

Straightening up as best he can he stabs a finger at Kovu so hard it vibrates.

"Alright Mister King of the Beasts. I'll let you off the hook today on ONE condition. When we get settled into Hospitown you gotta let me cook you a vegan meal alright? No complaints till you try it. And you gotta really give it an honest try." He proposed with a confident smile.

"Wait...you mean a whole meal without any meat?" That'd be almost as bad as the stuff Mikey made.

"No way. Not happening."

"What's the matter dude?"

He wagged his finger reproachfully.

"Scared of eating like an herbivore? Come onnnn one meal won't kill you."

"Plant stuff always made me sick when I was a lion," Kovu answers plaintively. "Can you really blame me?"

His ears drooped again.

"Yeah alright that makes sense. But that should make you even more excited to explore and try things that you won't be able to try when you're a lion again!"

Kovu makes a face.

"Fine. But don't blame me if I don't like it."

"Deal!" Beastboy laughed cheerfully as if he'd won something and stuck out his scrawny arm.

"Shake on it!" He added before wondering if Kovu had partaken in the human tradition of a handshake before.

Kovu stares at Beastboy's hand for a second. He knows the handshake gesture by now, he's seen it a dozen times, but he still doesn't like it, or get the point of it at all. But after a moment of considering he decides it'll be better to just do it and get it over with, so that Beastboy won't whine.

He grasps Beastboy's hand firmly, rolling his eyes.

Feeling victorious he gives it a firm shake and breaks it off popping another chip in his mouth.

"You won't regret this Kovu! Count on it!"
