Hello Chosen Within the City

Who: The city!
What: Invasion of the Digivolved Yokomon and Koromon
When: June 28-June 30
Where: All over Terminal Tokyo

Just as Ryou predicted it was only several hours later that the first wave of Yokomon and Koromon have made their appearance. Except...they're not Yokomon and Koromon anymore. It appears that they have all Digivolved into various types of Champion Digimon on the way over from Server. None of the various types of Champion seem to even blink if they're attacked. Their first and only objective seems to be to lay ruin to the city and everything in it. At first any attacks will be ignored, but if someone proceeds to continue and attack them, they will attack.

They're difficult to beat, regardless of level. These Digimon may need two people working together even at Champion level. Each Digimon are much more difficult to defeat solo than they would be normally. One thing should easily be certain before the first night is out-- if you want the city to survive then you're going to need to work together.]

[[OOC: So here's how this will work guys-- unless you need a Digimon for various reasons: playing out the first Digivolution, Dark Digivolutions, or a general battle they will be played by you. You may request a modded NPC as per usual, but depending on the number/duties you may be turned down (we'll do our best, though). Keep in mind your character will not have an easy win on their own and that humans will be virtually ineffective.

Most of the NPC Chosen will, unfortunately, have other things they're working on, but you may be able to see a couple helping to beat back the Digimon trying to destroy Terminal Tokyo ~~again~~.

There's all sorts of Champion levels to fight so pick and choose: Cyclonemon, Bullmon, Golemon, Harpymon, as well as many others will appear in the city, so don't be afraid to bring in a different kind of Champion Digimon from the DMA.

Remember to mark your subject titles with date, time, and even type of Digimon you will be fighting!]]

Of fucking course they don't work, why would we ever get nice things? Can't even open it up to look at its insides, don't know enough yet, need to study my own more first... Need a toolset and a crash course in hardware first. And lessons in reading this shit excuse for a language. And programming instructions. At least I won't be bored, but I could do with a break.

[Once she's satisfied there's no way to link the two, she actually addresses Juri again.]

"Someone"? Not a friend, then?

[Leormon glances at Juri and likewise. Eventually, she puts him down, when she's convinced he won't just vanish out of her arms. Her gaze now lingers on her D-Arc. She'd quite like it back...]

Oh, no, he's a friend! [Anyone who helps save you from a giant blob sucking out your happiness can be counted as a friend.] I just don't know him as well as I do the other Tamers.

[Sorry, she's still examining it, now she's pushing buttons.]

Can I see some cards, too?

Tamers... Sounds better than "Chosen Children", at least. You guys had to tame yours instead of just getting saddled with one?

Hell of an ego, saying you're "saddled" with someone as great as me! I'm the legendary Super Ultimate, remember! And no self-respecting Digimon would let a human 'tame' us, we're just stuck with you!

[Reluctantly, Juri hands over some of her cards, including the Devidramon one she slashed before. Pressing buttons results in displays! The Digimon analyzer! ...But not much else.]

No, nothing like that. They really don't sound too different, from what Culumon told me. We just, um...sometimes had to form a bond with our Digimon beforehand.

[She smiles shyly at Leormon. She's not used to looking down at him -- or looking at him at all, as of late -- but she doesn't mind it.]

From what I understand, you were bonded with your partner when she arrived here, right? [So he asks Gazimon.] I met Juri before we became partners, and we connected after. It's only after we had that between us that she became my Tamer.

[Gazimon bristled. Of course, she had been waiting for Alexandria for a very long time, but for most of that, she had been actively railing against the idea- She was powerful on her own, she didn't need a human, she could be whatever she wanted and become the strongest Digimon, she didn't need anyone else. And after so long, she wasn't exactly prepared to throw that away.]

"Bonded"? Don't make me laugh, the only bond we have is just convenient circumstance. As soon as she's useless, I'll ditch her in an instant.

[Meanwhile, Alex is content to ignore Gazimon's talk and try to swipe that Devidramon card through the D-Arc. She doesn't expect anything to come of it, but it's important to conduct tests.]

You shouldn't underestimate your partner. No matter how different or weak the humans may seem, they can surprise you, and often do. The gentlest of creatures can have the strongest of hearts and the most powerful of destinies.

[Leomon stop you're going to make her blush. More than that, YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE HER CRY. He's always been too kind and too sweet for her, and now she actually has him again and it's a little overwhelming.

As for the D-Arc? Yeah, her swiping any cards won't do anything, they have to be from Juri. Nice try, though.]

While I agree on the 'don't underestimate me' part, destiny can damn well blow me. I've been trying to read the stars since I got here, and it's basically like seeing the heavens align to spell out "error 404 fate not found".

I think he was going all mushy about his partner, not you.

Oh. Never mind, carry on then. Mush away. A user lock? Does it have an awareness to know who's using it, or is it a mechanical system that can be tricked...

[It was a nice try, Leormon. He shakes his head at them, but doesn't say more.]

...I don't really think it'll do anything. I tried to with Takato's digivice once, and nothing happened to Guilmon.

[She considers.]

Want to help me with some experiments, then? I can pay, if that's what you need.

[A Pteramon screams across the sky, firing off blasts. Leormon's fur goes on end and his eyes dilate.]

I don't think right now's a good time... N-not that I'll say yes without know what it is first.

Why's now a bad time?

[Beat as she realizes what she said.]

Lemme rephrase: You just got here, you probably can't make your partner evolve yet, even if you are a veteran, and you have no idea how to get around this place. Even if it's not a good time, what does it matter if you're out there or over here?

We should help.

[But it would keep Leomon out of danger.]

I will not stand idle while others are in battle.

You needed our help and my planning to help take down one. Is there a real difference where you are?

[She shakes her head, determined.]

I'm sorry, no. Even if it doesn't do much, I have to do something. If your experiments can happen while we fight, then maybe. But there are people and Digimon in trouble, and I can't do nothing.

[Leormon's real proud right now.]

[She considers Juri's words, before handing the D-Arc and cards back.]

They might, actually. First I should gather data by watching you work. Be sure you're in top form for this.

[Okay... Who is this girl? Juri takes her cards back, and her D-Arc.]

...What kind of experiments even are they? What do you need us to do?

Simply put... I'm verifying the nature of the relationship between humans and Digimon. Supposedly, we were called here for some great crisis, but we've seen nothing of the sort yet. Gazimon, take it, this is your bit.

Digimon can naturally evolve on our own without humans! But no matter who it is, each Chosen Digimon is stuck as a Child-level forever, unless the human is there to let them evolve, it's a stupid system that keeps us weak!

Right. What we're getting at is, in exchange for temporary strength, the bond between humans and Digimon seems to actually weaken the Digimon overall by blocking off their natural ability to evolve and hold an evolution permanently. You, at least, have a model of Digivice that allows you to be of actual use, showing powers a Digimon can't use alone, but those of us with this useless model have no such bonus. Which leads to my current theory, but as I couldn't test that properly on that... What was it?

Greymon. Will you learn the stuff I tell you already?!

Yeah, that. I'll acquire my data by watching you other kids do it instead. All you need to do is fight and prove your worth as a partner.

[Leormon nudges her leg; she's getting down on herself. It seems in his time gone, she hasn't stopped that.]

Right, um... Well, Leomon was...always at the Champion level, in our world. [Beat.] We could. I mean...if we get into trouble, you'll help, right?

[She doesn't want Leomon to get hurt again.]

You've already proven you work under different rules from us... Worth investigating.

Don't think about that sort of thing, dumbass. Only a weakling worries about having help from the start.

[She frowns at Gazimon. Here's where she puts her foot down.] I'll do it, but not unless you swear you'll step in if Leomon can't handle something.

Juri...

Don't you dare! Being worried...isn't weak. I'm not saying I won't, just that we might need some help.

Deal, but I don't know what you two can and can't do, so you'll have to judge that yourselves. I won't lift a finger until you actually say so.

[That, she's content with. Juri nods, and then looks to Leormon.] Okay... then let's do this.

[And out into the city.]
