What: It wasn't much of a story, more like a means to an end.
When: The night of Aug 15th
Where: Tokyo Tower
The stars twinkling in the night sky almost seemed to be laughing at Jinx as she raced through the night in a torn black dress and coat.
Her hair fluttered behind her dramatically as she weaved her way through black and white buildings with Noir hot on her heels. He flew surprisingly fast for someone so unaerodynamic.
"Tell me what you stole!" He barked as they clumsily dodged around a trash can and heard the shouting of pursuing mobsters on their heels.
"I swear I haven't stolen anything since this stupid event started except for a couple of bits and this stupid poker chip!" She drew it out of her bra and shook it at Noir who nabbed it studying it carefully.
"Why in the digital world would there be such a fuss about this chip?"
"Beats me!" Jinx snatched it back, "But it's the only other thing I've stolen this week."
"This week." He rolled his eyes as Tokyo Tower came into view.
"So you're telling me..." Noir panted as they raced for the base of the tower. "That these Digimon are trying to kill you, and have killed some mob boss all because of a poker chip?!"
She tucked the chip back in her bra and shrugged. "What do you want me to say? That I'm a murderer? That I stole some expensive diamond? Well I didn't you suspicious pig!"
"Yeah, sure you didn't!" Noir spat as she slowed her run to a trot. They were almost there, almost in the clear.
"Why are we even here?" He thought to ask pushing his fedora back up out of his line of sight."
"Because while YOU were out playing detective and leaving me alone to get chased around the city, I was contacted by the daughter of the Don I apparently killed. She wants to meet and clear this all up."
Noir's eyes boggled and he almost fell out of the sky. "And you don't think perhaps this is a trap!?"
Jinx smirked, "I know it is. But I want to know who's behind all this and that means using whatever I've got. Which right now consists of this lead, a ripped dress, a poker chip, and you...for whatever you're worth."
"Well thank you Ms. Exposition." He growled.
no subject
"Are you out of your mind woman!? Just give them the chip!!!"
Her sharp slitted eyes narrow and she never takes her eyes off Renamon, "Get ahold of yourself. They'll just kill us once they get what they want. I want to at least know what we've been getting our asses handed to us over."
"We're getting our asses handed to us because YOU can't keep your hands to yourself you greed bitch!"
Her eye twitches and she grumbles "Really Noir, can we do this later?"
"NO! No we cannot! This is insane! We've almost died like...four times in the last two days all because you refuse to give up that damned chip!"
She smirks sardonically and addresses Renamon "Come on then. Tell the greedy sticky fingered girl what's so important about this lousy chip."

She raises her sharp chin and looks Jinx right in the eye, voice and posture easy. "My father talked too much." And her eyes narrow. "That's not a mistake I'm going to make."
At that moment, Musyamon charges Noir, swinging his sword at the flying Digimon, while Renamon runs and launches at Jinx, claws first.

Bundling him under her arms she shot towards Musyamon, the stronger but likely slower of the two. Hopefully if he couldn't slow his swing he'd hit the elevator door and buy them a few seconds.
Her back screamed in pain with the sudden jerky motions and she bit her lip to avoid crying out, the remains of being hit in the back by a Garurumon's blue blaster were still evident on her bare back and the numbness and shock had finally worn off.
"What is wrong with you hero?" She growled at Noir who was shaking like a leaf. "Aren't you supposed to be the tough as nails private eye?"
"I'm not!" He moaned feeling a sort of sickness twist around in his stomach. "I'm no hero! I'm not even a very good side kick!"
no subject
With a growl, she...
...vanishes from sight.
And appears behind Jinx, slashing with her claws.

The pain was excruciating and knocked Jinx to her knees and Noir from her hands. He bounced across the floor and scrabbled to his feet barking out a negative energy bullet at Renamon's face.
Tears fell from Jinx's cheeks like diamonds in the dark, gleaming at they caught the light for a precious moment before spattering on the floor.
no subject
"Mmm, that's more like it. Show you where you belong."
Musyamon approaches, sword pointed at Jinx.
"With this, I'll be the one who avenged my poor father, and you? Well, it's been a nice game, but you were the unlucky one who had to be the pawn in my victory...
You and poor Don Chuumon, of course."
Renamon charges another diamond storm.
no subject
Her face dripping with sweat and tears she tries not to think about how her vision is starting to get hazy, or how horrified Noir looks.
"You're going to get us killed! Again! You never cared about me! Never saw me as a partner! This is all YOUR FAULT!" Tears are pouring from his eyes now as he even now puts himself between her and the other Digimon.
"How could I ever have been a hero with a partner like you?"
And she laughs softly to herself.
"Noir...heroes aren't just one thing or the other. You don't need to be a paragon of virtue. The world isn't black and white like that, it's all shades of grey." It feels strange hearing those words come out of her mouth but she's on a roll.
"You're right though. This is all my fault. Truth is I've been trying to tell myself the reason I kept failing at being a supervillain was my lousy team. But now I'm starting to think maybe it's always been me getting in my own way and blaming everyone else."
It doesn't make sense to her but right now not alot makes sense. She's grasping for straws.
"I'm sorry. Maybe next time you hatch you'll get the partner you deserve instead of bad luck."
Noir was so stunned by this little speech that halfway through he took his eyes off Renamon and her flunky

As Musyamon brings his sword down at Noir, Renamon's Diamond Storm fires off at Jinx.

Jinx shoved him hard and he bounced out of the way crashing to the floor, eyes snapping open just in time to watch her take the force of both attacks. the blade sliced through her like a hot knife through butter, the diamonds pelted her with such force that she smashed through the window toppling backwards into the night.
"JINX!" Noir was couldn't contain himself. The world seemed to slow down as the pudgy little Tsukaimon scrambled forward and threw himself out the window after her.
As they plummeted through the warm summer air shards of glass sparkled around them like stars, reflecting the light beaming from Noir as he stretched his tiny little paws out to grab for Jinx.
Her own bright pink eyes held no fear in them, just confusion. Like even she couldn't fully believe she had just done that. And now Noir was glowing and growing, silently her lips formed the word...
"Finally"

"Sorrysorrysorry!"
Jinx moaned hanging upside down watching the shards of glass fall to the earth below.
"Am I dead? Is this dying?" She muttered feeling decidedly weak.
"Not yet...come on let's get you to a hospital." He dragged her up into his arms so he could hold her more comfortably.
"No...no." She waved a hand as if to shoo away the notion of help. "You've evolved...let's...let's have some fun."
It was stupid, but Noir had to admit he wanted revenge.
"Far be it from me to disrespect a dying woman's final wish."
no subject
"And now with this, I can claim my place. All it took was a little scapegoat and dear father dying to motivate the rest of the family." She looks at Musyamon, ever silent. "Thank you, for standing by me. You'll be my right-hand, as promised."
The event that's just occurred has flown completely over her head, her back to the skyline.
no subject
What she will have to notice however is a Soulmon appearing right in front of her and roaring out "BOOGABOOGABOOGAH!!!"

Meanwhile Renamon was swinging from her ankle outside Tokyo Tower from the rope Noir had secured to one of the support beams.
Opposite her Jinx was resting on another beam, casually bleeding on the tower beams while data flaked off from her wounds. Her eyes were reflective in the moonlight, and a gleam of the light coming off pallet town caught on the knife she held in her hand.
"Nobody messes with me." She smirked "Got that?"

Musyamon can't cut through magic. Especially magic designed to drain his strength. He winces and drops to one knee.
no subject
"Not yet, but give me time. You might get there before I do." She twirls the knife menacingly between her fingers.
"I'm not totally sure but I'm willing to bet a drop like this would even kill a digimon. Especially a low level one like you."
She sits up a little but winces and opts to remain leaning against the support beam.
"I get it. You're a small fish with big ideas and plans. A woman of ambition. I can admire that." A dark bitterness in your voice "You saw what you wanted and worked out the easiest way to get it. Just happened to be my bad luck that I got twisted up in your plans."
Meanwhile Noir was laughing with glee at finally evolving. Of course in his new Soulmon form that laugh was haunting and bellowing and echoed through the night sky. He drifted closer to Musyamon "Let's see what this does..." Tipping back his hat he revealed a pair of spooky glowing eyes activating his next attack "End Trance!"
no subject
"I am not low level! I am the future leader of Don Chuumon's gang! I did not kill the little rat to be bested by a human!"
She thrashes; entirely not the seemingly composed Digimon she looked like.
The attack sends a beam at Musyamon and he snaps in and out of a trance in quick succession, entirely disoriented. He drops the sword. He's entirely open.
no subject
"Whoops..." He peered down watching the sword spin.
It missed Renamon by inches and Jinx chuckled holding up her D-terminal and playing back Renamon's confession.
"I am not low level! I am the future leader of Don Chuumon's gang! I did not kill the little rat to be bested by a human!"
With a few strokes of her long graceful fingers a message was drafted to the police department.
"Now I'm not in the habit of ratting out other criminals. Especially good looking ones. But you really hurt my feelings trying to kill me."
The knife flipped in her hand again and she took a moment to steady her breathing. She was running out of steam fast. Still recording she continued.
"Now I know some of the cops are dirty, but what are your chances of getting spring if I send this message to every single cop and goody good hero in the city? Or maybe even some of the not-so-goods who had a good relationship with the don? Or maybe those who might want to step into that power vacuum you've created?"
no subject
Musyamon rises futilely, without his sword, and he yells out in anger, as his lady is in danger. He leaps at Jinx in a rage.
no subject
"Noir!" She cried out flinching as she prepares to be tackled from the window.
But as Musyamon sails across the empty space between Jinx's perch and the broken window Noir appears floating next to the bodyguard and a decaying rotted hand slides out from under his sheet.
"Necro Chop!"

"What I want, is my name cleared. I want everyone off my case. The cops, the bounty hunters and the criminals. You make sure everyone knows not to mess with me anymore."
And then she smirked.
"And to make up for all my pain and suffering? I want your bar. You can still work there but I want to own it." She had never owned a business before and didn't intend on changing anything really, just skimming a cut of the profits.
no subject
But she's hanging upside-down from Tokyo Tower by one foot, so it's not like she can really ask for anything, can she?
"...A good mobster knows when to make a deal. You've won this time...girl."
no subject
"I think we all learned a valuable lesson here." She declared in soft smug victory. She tried to sit up and winced however.
"Now, Noir put the nice lady up where she's safe so she can go get my new deed. Then you and I have a trip to the hospital to sort out."
"You got it doll!" Noir grinned equally as wicked still riding the rush of evolution. He scooped up Renamon delicately in his arms.
"No hard feelings babe." He tipped his hat and winked at her with glowing eyes.
Meanwhile Jinx relaxed leaning against the support beam of the tower and gazing down at the lights of Pallet town below her.
She was a bad girl...but she wasn't ruthless. Not yet. She'd come out of this deal with some scars yes but in the end she'd come out on top.
Too bad no one was around to appreciate it half as much as she and Noir would as soon as she was safely bandaged up.
For now she was just another story among hundreds in a city that never sleeps. A city of data and darkness, of love and loss.
This city called Terminal Tokyo.
