New Arrivals: Let's Have Some Fun

A calm had swept over Terminal Tokyo, as the Chosen Children had successfully repel the Beemon attack and began to clean up their city. All was well and life would go on, though some scars would take a while to heal. But as the saying goes, there is no rest for the weary.

Another earthquake tore through the Digital World. One on the scale of the one that had brought so many of the current Chosen to the Digtal World. Once again, dozens of Chosen were making their way to the Digital World. Destiny was calling once more and so were their partners...

Every chute in the Terminal Room activated while the small Digimon known as Culumon trembled with excitement. There were so many lonely Digimon that had appeared recently and--finally-- their partners had arrived!

Sure! [Just gonna' lead the way to the library!]

So you're a scientist? That's really neat! I used to do magic back home, myself.

[sawhell]

[Ed traipses slightly behind the kid so that BlackAgumon doesn't get left completely in the dust.

This time the mention of magic without any trace of irony doesn't blindside him, so he manages to keep smiling.] Magic, huh? What, like party tricks?

[fuhrinkaed]

Party tricks? Huh... I guess I might know one or two of them. [Summoning a glacier and using it for icecubes would be a pretty cool party trick, right?] It's mostly stuff for combat, though.

But none of it works here. This place stops anything supernatural.

[sawhell]

Combat. Right.

[Fortunately, before his eyes can roll all the way out of his head, he's distracted.]

Actually, now you mention it... it's the place I was hoping to find out about more than whatever's living in it right now. You know, the geology and so on. That's my field as an alchemist, pretty much. Ring any bells? [He sounds hopeful.]

[fuhrinkaed]

[An alchemist..? OH! Like Alexandria. This guy seems a lot nicer, though.]

Well, there's Digimon that live here, and us outsiders... and that's about it. I haven't seen anything alive that wasn't one of the two. As for the geology... hm. I haven't had a lot of chance to look around, really... and the maps in the library don't really apply anymore.

[sawhell]

[He waves a hand impatiently.] No, geology. You know, what this city's built on, maybe records of earthquakes, that kind of thing. It's... [- pretty urgent as far as he's concerned, but he can't expect any old stranger off the street with a head full of occult junk to care much about a science, can he? That wouldn't be reasonable.] important.

[fuhrinkaed]

Oh, that geology! I don't think there's any of that available yet. This city was formed relatively recently--Tokyo crashed into the digital world and they merged to create it, right?--and since then everyone's been busy with a festival and a swarm of really tough bees and figuring out what's going on and trying to save someone from this giant extradimensional hole of bad feelings that's opened in spacetime so I don't think anyone's had time to go looking down beneath the surface to see what's there.

[He thinks about it for a second, then smiles sheepishly.] S-sorry..?

[sawhell]

[Under other circumstances Ed would wonder aloud what in the world this guy could be apologising for, but that spiel gave him a few more pressing things to try and wrap his head around. One of those things was not like the others...] Hole of what now?

[fuhrinkaed]

It's a hole in space-time that seems to go to somewhere else, like some kind of data glitch or something.

I went inside it, but it was dark and you couldn't see anything and stuff would cut you randomly and there were bad memories that just kept coming up the deeper you went into it. Giant extradimensional hole of bad feelings.

[sawhell]

[Ed gives the guy a quizzical look, by now pretty convinced that he isn't all there.] If you say so.

How far is it from here? The library, not whatever you just said.

[fuhrinkaed]

[If Ed was paying attention, he'd know that look. Luckily, he's too busy pointing.]

It's that building right over there, actually.

[sawhell]

That building?

[Ed surveys it for a moment. ...He's seen better. That's not this stranger's fault, though.

He musters a grin.] All right. I guess I owe you one, uh...

[He could have asked for a name earlier, but hell, politeness is for younger siblings.]

[fuhrinkaed]

Ed. It's nice to meet you.

[sawhell]

Huh, really?

[Well, it's hardly an unusual name. He leans down to pull his coat out of BlackAgumon's unresisting claws and slings it over his shoulder with an excessively dramatic flourish.]

Edward Elric. Nice to meet you too, foureyes. Maybe I'll see you around.

[fuhrinkaed]

Yeah, you too, Edwar--

[waaait a tic.] ...foureyes?

[sawhell]

Oh, you don't like that? Let's see.

[He scratches at his chin with his free hand as he looks Ed over critically. It's kind of difficult, to be honest, seeing as obvious physical traits he could pick on is 't go near with a . There's the hair, he supposes...]

What about "fluffy"? How's that sound?

[fuhrinkaed]

[Well this has suddenly become extremely confusing.]

Wait... why am I getting a nickname, now?

[His grin widens in a less than pleasant way.] Isn't it obvious? Where's the sense in confusing people?

[fuhrinkaed]

...You're right... [Pleasant or unpleasant, all Ed sees is a smile. It's so considerate of this other Ed to not want to confuse people by having both of them take up the same name. That would lead to all sorts of awkward moments at parties, and those were really, really bad. But everyone already knew him as Ed, so it'd be even worse if he made them all have to figure out a new name for him.]

Why don't we call you Elric? That would work, and Elric is a really cool name.

[sawhell]

[Ed makes a dismissive noise.] Nice try, but no, that wouldn't work. I've got a brother. [He sounds awfully smug about this.]

[fuhrinkaed]

Oh. I've got a sister, and I wouldn't want anyone getting us confused either so... I get that. [Don't ask.]

Maybe we can call you New Ed and I'll be the original Ed? NEd and Ed.

I think NEd suits you. [Nodnod.]

[sawhell]

[This goes some way towards wiping the insufferable smile off his face.]

Give me a break. What's wrong with "fluffy"?

It's not that there's anything wrong with it, I mean... it's not a bad name or anything, but... it's just... I dunno...

...I'm not a cat?

[sawhell]

Glad you agree. Alright, it's settled. [He raises his free hand to give a little wave.] Later, Fluffy.

[Wrapped up in his own self-satisfaction as he heads inside, he fails to notice another bout of momentary flickering around his abdomen, but chances are he would have pretended to ignore it anyway.]

Ed! Geez... [BlackAgumon stumbles after him.]

What? Oh, yeah, that's right - you could do with a better name too...

[fuhrinkaed]

W-wait, since when did we randomly decide that I'm--

[That's not fair at all! Unable to let this stand, Ed rushes in after Ed.] Darn it, NEd! I'm on to you!
