New Arrivals Digicards On Mario Karts!

Last month had been relatively calm, with only a new Dark Area being found.

But once again, that calm was disrupted.  For the third consecutive time, an earthquake tore through the Digital World. One on the scale of the one that had brought so many of the current Chosen to the Digtal World. Once again, dozens of Chosen were making their way to the Digital World. Destiny was calling once more and so were their partners.  Mayhaps even some of the Choosen that have been here for a while, have predicted this to happen, today.

Every chute in the Terminal Room activated while the small Digimon known as Culumon trembled with excitement. There were so many lonely Digimon that had appeared recently and--finally-- their partners had arrived!

Oh! And the purple one must be antimagic! Since the yellow ones are the monsters... or was it the blue ones? ...Black ones?

[That seems to surprise Ed, who quirks an eyebrow.] Really? Wh-what kind of danger? Do people seriously throw fireballs around?

The blue ones and black ones also look like monsters...

[Ouch, this is him wincing a bit at fireballs. Bad memories. Really bad memories.]

Where I come from, duels are conducted with augmented reality systems. People expect to get at least blown off their feet. There are also people and beings with powers that make it more dangerous.

And the orange ones are monsters too? That's a lot of monsters!

...that sounds dangerous. You must be a really good athlete if you're a duelist in your world! Y-you haven't run into any trouble before, have you?

We should ask what all the colors mean.

[It's not completely necessary to be a good athlete - you just need to have a strong will. The ability to get up after being knocked down is a sign of a duelist. You should see him scale fences though, he's awesome at that.]

Hey, why are there so many colors of monsters?

[marinebiting]

[For a given value of alright, yes. Shark doesn't want to talk any more about that subject, so Interrupting Guilmon is actually appreciated in this one very specific moment.]

There's different types of monsters. Yellow ones are normal monsters. Orange ones are called effect monsters that do what's written on the card. Blue, white, purple, and black ones are monsters you can only play after you meet certain conditions. A lot of them have effects too.

[Ed falls silent--he was actually curious about this too, but he hadn't gotten to the point where he asked about it yet.]

What kind of conditions? Is there a dance or a special thing you say?

[Well, there are some people who do say certain things when they summon certain monsters, but no. Shark is going to explain ritual, fusion, syncro, and XYZ summoning now.]

It's so complicated...

[Does he really expect Gotsumon to learn this and get good at it?

...Yes.]

[Guilmon is again lost and her eyes have gone all swirly... she honestly only barely understands special summoning at all.

Ed, though, seems to have had his interest piqued...]

Wait, so you mean Ritual monsters are created by using a spell card to create a magic ritual that calls them forth... and you have to prepare for it by pulling the parts from your deck? [His mahotaku-ness has kicked in.] That is so cool! And then they can tune themselves with other monsters to create Synchros, Fusions, and XYZ monsters on top of that? So it's a game about magic and friendship and cooperation! Oh man... I really want to play now..!

[He's completely silent as he listens to Ed. This guy...he might have the makings of a good duelist.]

If there's any place we can get our hands on some cards we can.

[Because you can't play with just one deck. :c]

Oh man, where are we even going to get cards in a place like this?! Th-this is so unfair! It's like the game's right there, waiting for us to play it...

...We need to search the town and see if any of the stores carry these cards! You never know, it could be!

[Yes, but it is quite a sight no matter how many times he sees them.]

[Store searching montage! And by some digi-miracle, they found one!]

I didn't expect a place to actually have them.

M-me either..! [He starts sifting through them.] I guess the card game was a hobby to the people of this Tokyo, too. Maybe some things are universal?

So it's... forty to sixty cards in a deck, and fifteen in the extra deck, right? And I have to think about how they'll work together.

[marinebiting]

[He knows that the game crosses into other universes. The Astral and Barian worlds are parallel worlds where the game also exists, but something completely different like this is quite amazing.]

Start with something basic until you find something you like.

[He's busy looking through all of the cards still.] Are Ritual monsters basic? I really like the idea of them. The magic powers and all of that merging in order to create a new force, one that fights for balance and all that.

[It's a starter deck that focuses on a ritual monster.]

[He fans it out and starts looking through the cards, stopping at the Ritual monster.]

Divine Grace Northwemko... She's really pretty! And a spellcaster too... that's perfect! Okay then, I'll give it a try!

[Please note that if they do play he's going to get positively slaughtered. How does I read bluffs? D:]

[He'd be playing a former professional. The chances would be very slim indeed. Meanwhile, Gotsumon doesn't have the same certainty as Ed.]

[And unlike certain other newbies who are terrible at card games, Ed doesn't even have a magical necklace to steal.]

[Since Gotsumon has no idea what she'd like, she ends up picking a deck based solely on the one she can see on the front of the package: Poseidra, the Atlantean Dragon.]
