[open] Birthday Party Extravaganza for (1) Campbell Saunders
Who: Maya, Cam, and the rest of ya'll.
What: A BIRTHDAY PARTY EXTRAVAGANZA okay no it's not an extravaganza, it's actually just a party for Cam's birthday.
When: December 5th.
Where: Cafeteria area.
At ridiculous o'clock on the morning of December 5th, Maya enlisted Hyokomon and Strabimon to help her tape invitations on anyone and everyone's door. All of the invitations were hand-written, although they seemed to be in three or four different handwritings, and they all said exactly the same thing:
YOU'RE INVITED TO CAM'S BIRTHDAY PARTY
TODAY AT 1PM IN THE CAFETERIA
In retrospect, there were definitely easier ways of inviting the whole city to a party but Maya didn't care. This way meant that only dedicated people would show up to the party. Maybe. That was Maya's hope, anyway. She didn't usually mind being around people, but the fact that she was performing a song she'd written for Cam was kind of. Embarrassing. She'd done it before, at Battle of the Bands, but that had been decidedly less personal than "Jersey Boy." As in "the song she never showed to anyone."
Most of the party preparations had been handled by Neku, because funnily enough freshman band geeks don't plan that many parties, and Maya was eternally grateful to him for it. Mostly because she'd been working nonstop on the stupid song and there wouldn't be much of a party if she'd had to plan it. If her plan failed miserably, then at least there was food. And probably the people here were less gossipy than the kids at Degrassi, so the whole city wouldn't know she'd made a fool of herself.
A girl could hope, right?

PERFORMANCE
Slinging her guitar around her neck, Maya stepped up on the stage and behind the mic.]
If I could have your attention, please? This song is for one Campbell Saunders, who is my favorite person in any world.
[With a glance to the band behind her, Maya counted them in and started to play.]

And it's only when the performance is finished that it lowers itself, right down in front of her as her Crest of Courage.]

Anyway, a shower, an alert from Lucette of the message on the door, a few awkward run-ins-- it all leads to a small strangled yelp of Maya! and him trekking down to the cafeteria, because if she put work into it he wouldn't shy away, even if parties aren't exactly his speed.
If the party was a surprise, then the song is something else, because from the very first line it's very clear to him how specific it is. Lucette practically rocks out next to him, and Salamon bobs his head at Cam's feet, though Cam himself half wants to disappear into the ground, but--
But the more it goes on, with the light shining above Maya's head, the crest, the nerves calm. The rising anxiety shifts to admiration. She did all this for him. Threw together a band, even. She looks very pretty, in that dress, and he knows how rarely she gets dressed up-- and how much he's messed up in that regard. Heat rushes to his face, but he lets it, and he slowly walks closer to the stage, as she goes on.
At it's close, he's standing right at the front, clapping gently. He looks up at Maya.]
So. [Quiet, husky, loud enough so she can hear.] Jersey Boy, huh?

That said, it was harder to find a present than she'd thought it would be. With Thelma and Rufus as her peanut gallery, Misha had picked through all of the remaining shops in the district to find something appropriate. It had taken quite a while, but she'd managed to find a pretty awesome hoodie in the style of... well, it looked like a less trippy Rufus, actually. Gabumon. She thought it was pretty cool, and it even had little stuffed claws at the ends of the wrists.
The detour and lack of stores in the first place meant that when Misha got there, she had already missed the song and the cresting, but it didn't matter all that much. That was just the beginning, right? Right. She sent both of her partners to get drinks (one of them might get into trouble, but both should balance each other out) and looked for a place to drop her present.

"I think you just kinda put it anywhere," he says, all smiles right now. "I think Maya's got a table set up, somewhere. Or, ya know."
The birthday kid is right there, after all.
no subject
"Happy birthday, kid. Or are you not a kid anymore?" she asked, teasingly.

Right, he was sure Cam would understand. Kaldur gathered his partners, Sedna the Gizamon and Scipio the Kotemon, and headed for the party. It seemed he was early since not many others had arrived yet. He looked around for a place to set his gift for Cam and to see who else was here already.

Bearmon shuffled behind her and Yang sighed. "Oh come on, you're worse than Ruby," she sounded more exasperated than angry. "Just give people a chance, okay?" Yang grabbed Bearmon's paw and started leading him further into the room, "Come on! We may not know the birthday boy yet, but it doesn't have to stay that way."

Little Salamon, at Cam's feet, has a differing opinion, a slightly more nuanced one. "Wow, she's pretty."
Cam looks down. "Well, go talk to 'er, lil' buddy."

Looking past Bearmon she noticed a small digimon staring at them. Welp, time to change the subject and get Bearmon some friends so he could learn to be a little less clingy. She practically skipped past her partner, making a beeline for the Salamon and the boy. "Hello! I'm Yang and this is Bearmon. We're new here, hope you don't mind us at the party." Bearmon had no choice now but to follow.

Although the Strabimon that was currently trailing behind her was probably more than a little intimidating.
"Hey," Maya said. She gave a little wave, with the arm currently not holding a basket full of cookies. "I don't think we've ever met - I'm Maya, Cam's girlfriend."

"Hello I'm Yang," Yang replied, returning the gesture. She glanced back at Bearmon, silently communicating to him how awesome it was that they'd met so many awesome, nice people already and why couldn't he just enjoy himself? Bearmon didn't respond. Yang looked back up, "Well that would probably be because I only dropped into town the other day. Haven't really had a chance to meet people yet."

After the song he could be found near the food tables with his partners, doing his best to keep Nes from crashing into the whole thing and eating it all. Pacifying the Dracomon at last, the three of them settled to share a round of drinks and mingle with anyone else who came to the party.

Plus, she had to admit that when she heard Chris had part in the performance, she had really wanted to see him play.
"Chris...! You sounded great!"

Spotting Chris, Maya walked over to him, a basket full of cookie packages on her arm. "Hi," she said, strangely shy for someone who'd just been crested with courage. Dipping her hand into the basket, she produced a bag of cookies and offered it to Chris. "I baked you cookies as a thank you. I have bit too, but I understand if you don't want to take that."
no subject
"Ah y'shouldn't have." A gentle chuckle was in his voice as he took the bag of cookies. "Thanks though." He looked a little indecisive about the bit and whether to accept it or not, but thankfully after a moment the decision is made for him.
"Can I have it?"
Chris glanced aside at Nes, then smiled. "Sure! You keep that and you save it, okay?"
The dragon beamed, proud to be given something all his own responsibility.

"My! I remember you!" Approach meaning pop right up in her face. Seriously, Lucette's a weirdo.

Afterwards, he can most likely be found hanging out by the food tables, particularly near the dessert table, but he'll also be out mingling, particularly to try and catch a moment with the birthday boy to with him a happy one. Cody is back in his usual spot of perched up on his shoulders and Adele's at his side. Cody, at least, seems to have picked up Martin's liking of sweets...
